A recent purchase of a collection of modern saltwater and salmon tackle hit my doorstep yesterday from Germany. One of the most impressive collections we have purchased. What a pleasure it must have been for the owner to pack when planning a trip. “Shall I take the Charlton or the Mako’s or what about the Tibors? I must take the Van Staal in case I do some spinning.” What a choice!
They do say that preparing for a trip can almost be as enjoyable as the trip itself.
The images speak for themselves, but some highlights are the rare Jack Charlton Signature Series 8500 reel followed closely by two Mako reels. Too many other top brands to mention but also included are impressive Tibor, Abel, Hatch and Hardy fly reels.
Three super Winston Boron 11-MX rods and two of the very popular Thomas and Thomas salmon rods. Plus, Orvis, Sage, Abel and two of the still innovative Zpey rods are included.
Dave is looking forward to this collection, amongst others, arriving at Weston Super Mare in the next few days so if you want to stock up on some rare quality items keep an eye on the new listings.
We have other large collections in the pipeline including some superb split cane coarse rods and more Hardy all brass reels.
This collection had me recalling my own saltwater trips and especially a Farlows led trip to the remote Clipperton Island in the Pacific Ocean in March 2003. A truly amazing two-week trip on The Shogun long-range vessel out of Cabo San Lucas. Some say this must rank as one of the best saltwater trips ever with numerous IGFA world records established in various line classes (none by me).
For 21 years I have said I must write an article about this trip. I must do that but in the meantime for interest a couple of images. One of Tim Pilcher playing a large rainbow runner and one of Brian Fratel with a ‘fly’ caught yellow fin tuna.
